Our infield hydraulic hose repair kits are designed as a temporary repair for hydraulic hoses. Since the existing hose was leaking I was not able to raise the boom to access the full length of the hose to replace it.
I called a couple people thinking they could service on site to cut hose and add fittings to couple back together. Nope, they all said entire hose would have to be removed and have a new complete hose installed. This probable would have cost over $2k with craning up the boom to access. So I decided to try the “hose patch”.
I have used my manlift every day for the last to months and it’s working fine. I check it weekly for any leakage. It is still dry as a bone.
I did wrap it in friction tape around clamp because the group of hoses flex and rub on against each other and I didn’t want the exposed bolts on the “hose patch” to rub against the other hoses.
Even though that was an easy fix for my situation. I think it should come with a rubber cover that clamps around the hose patch.
Other than that, I give it a major thumbs up!
Once you have access to the busted hose, it takes no time to install. It gives you peace of mind when you’re far from the harbour. This could let you finish your day without to be towed in( steering hose). Every boat should have a kit on board!
I used this kit today after a hose rubbed through, it kept us rolling along while the weather was good, it took longer to top up the oil than to fit the Hosepatch And when the wind gets up next we’ll get a new hose and put the patch back in the kit.
Installed on steering line that had rubbed a hole against drain pain plug for a series one John Deere tractor. Held for a week of use until spare hose arrived. Great little gadget that saved me down time.
